A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM by William Shakespeare Directed by Janet Philbrook Stage Door Youth Theatre @ Victoria Park, Nelson It made a lovely change to see some outdoor theatre, and the weather was most definitely on our side. With temperatures of around 25 degrees, it was essential to take sun cream and a cold drink! I was pleased the Stage Door had taken the risk with our unpredictable British Weather, and it paid off. I am a huge fan of a promenade performance, as I think it challenges the actors and the audience by taking theatre out of its conventional setting and challenge the audience members to use their imaginations. This re imagined version of the tale didn’t take itself too seriously for which I was very grateful, as I personally do find Shakespeare hard to follow at the best of times! The Stage Door Team looked very smart and recognisable, which in turn made the event well organised and easy to navigate. It was brilliant to see such a fabulous attendance, too, being very well supported by the public. The creative team had taken a very simple approach to the costumes, props and visuals. Although this worked well, and was clearly the intended style of the piece, it would have been nice if there was a little extra, as I
