ACT Theatre Reviews 2021-2022

picking on a couple of the audience members in the instrumental breaks. My personal favourite performance of the evening was that of Harry Fenwick. Pam Ferris originated the role of the Agatha Trunchbull, the sociopathic school principal who terrorizes children for her own enjoyment. To transfer this role to stage, Dennis Kelly made the ingenious decision to recreate this iconic role, in drag! Harry certainly had huge shoes to fill and boy, did he fill them? Everything from his posture to his dialogue, his characterisation of Miss Trunchbull was perfect. Well done. Overall, this production of ‘Matilda’ took me back to my childhood and gave me the gooey feeling of nostalgia that I had hoped this it would deliver. It has also re introduced this literary classic to a whole new generation of children. Matilda is just the gift that keeps on giving. Congress players proved to every member of the audience who watched this production of Matilda “even if you’re little you CAN do a lot, you mustn’t let a little thing like little stop you”.
