Two years absence from the stage due to the pandemic and lockdown, the creative team arranged an evening of musical theatre delights. Projection onto the backdrop was the setting for the scenery and the scene for the musical content. All the artwork by Simon Matthews lifted the production. Adding to the dynamics was Nick Walker’s dramatic lighting and giving clarity to the set piece was John McCarthy’s sound design. The music was well rehearsed, the staging was well thought out and the choreography was inventive and pitched to everybody’s individual ability. There were special local guests; the Louise Carter School of Dance who gave sophistication to their routine. Also there was “Fitness with Beckie” who presented a powerful interpretation of “The Greatest Show” with vocals by Rob Tagell. The Host for the evening was Sarah Oliver who skilfully addressed the audience. Sarah had such an inviting manner that she soon became the best of friends with the audience. Sarah was also a member of the company and absolutely nailed her solo “The Wizard and I”. The programme consisted of 31 numbers, ensembles, sextets, quartets, duos and solos, opening with the appropriate “As If We Never Said Goodbye”. There was so much to enjoy from the rich selection from the musical theatre song book. Included were Little “Shop of Horrors” (Alicia Whittaker solo), comedy was supplied by Louise Colohan and Michael Shneck with their rendition of “Spamalot’s” “The Song That Goes Like That”.
