| Following the successful launch of the Association of Community Theatre, better known as ACT, there has been a tremendous amount of interest from a wide range of theatre performance groups and individuals. What has been particularly gratifying is the number of enquiries we have received nationwide. It seems that ACT is exactly what you want and need – an association run by its members on behalf of its members. This has meant that applications to join the association in all sections of it are being received by ACT. Membership currently covers a very wide geographical area. A number of members have already made suggestions as to how to develop the association and are taking a keen interest in watching ACT grow and expanding its activities in the performing arts world. |
Summer School
The superb presentation by members of the ROSS Summer School on launch day have shown that the School is giving our members exactly what is wanted. Groups and individuals have shown an active interest in the courses that the superb ROSS summer school is offering with the result that there has been an increase in applications of courses as a result of its affiliation to ACT. Traders
ACT was delighted to welcome Traders to its inaugural meeting where there were twelve exhibition stands.All of the traders who attended are very enthusiastic about the new organisation. That the Traders came from as far afield as Henley, South Wales and Scotland shows the level of support and goodwill for our association. As a very special vote of support, members of ACT are now able to receive a discount of 10% when buying or hiring from all associated companies, the majority of whom are also members of the Theatrical Traders' Association. The TTA members provide a quality of service that guarantees your society will get the very best service possible. All the traders are very supportive of ACT - let us support them. |
Workshops
Plans are in preparation for a series of Theatrical Workshops. Many of the members of ACT have already suggested topics they wish to be covered but what will be of particular interest to, we believe, the vast majority of members is that we will be able to bring the workshops to you. This will prove to be a valuable fund raiser for your societies at the same time. There will be more about this in a later newsletter, but the organising team for workshops is very excited about plans already being discussed. Watch out for further news. |
Magazine
It is very early days yet but ACT plans to publish a magazine to give you news of activities, both with the association, and your society's activities and productions. The magazine will also contain reviews of your society's shows if a representative has been invited for this purpose.
The Website (www.actuk.org)
The website is going the be the hub for obtaining information that you want, It is still in its infancy with only one or two representative societies linked to give you a feel for how the site will develop. The society pages are for you to have a link into your own society's website, and also to publish your own newsletters to be able to reach a wider audience. Posters of your forthcoming productions can also be displayed here. This section of the website will be updated on a very regular basis so that there is no out-of-date material to wade through. Go on, give it a whirl, it will cost you nothing as it is part of your membership fee.
Showboard
You can list your forthcoming production on the website's Showboard section.  There is an online form which you can fill in with the details of all your forthcoming productions. It is intended that Showboard will be listing all member productions. Experience has shown that many members are interested in which society has done what show as an aid to obtaining props, scenery, costumes, scripts or, as more often happens, someone to play a role as a last minute replacement for the indisposition of one of your players in your own society's production. |
Swap Shop
With nearly every production mounted, dramatic or musical, sometimes a last minute prop is needed, or it is proving difficult to obtain, for example, a zinc bathtub for Accrington Pals. Well, this is the place to post your wants.
