MUSIC FROM THE MOVIES

Alderley & Wilmslow Musical Theatre Company

Directors: Tina Spiers & Alison Brander

Choreography: Vanessa Cockburn

Music supplied by backing tracks

This annual event has grown and grown in content, presentation and the working of the venue. This musical showcase allows new talent from the group to experience performing. They experienced telling a story through song, and holding and working an audience.

There was an open stage with a glitter slash backdrop with lighting to give effect. Dressed in black with the group’s name and logo across their T- shirts with a few changes for content gave style to the proceedings.

It was cabaret style for the auditorium with table and chair seating all adding to the ambience.

The all-important sound system couldn’t be faulted. Levels for music mixed with vocals brought out the best in the performers.

The direction created an interesting programme where each section was introduced which and this added to the audience’s enjoyment. Company numbers were choreographed giving greater depth to the varied sets.

Act 1 consisted of a Disney medley and songs from films such as “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “The Greatest Showman”. Act 2 opened with title songs from the “James Bond” films followed by songs from musicals which had been made into films. The group’s next production “Joseph” closed the revue with the exciting megamix.

All the company solos duets etc. were well executed, in particular Steve Mills’ rendition of “The way You Look Tonight”. I want to congratulate those members who, for the first time, ventured on to the front line. They were Jess Trimble, Ana Escudero, Kelly Zinonos, Katy Thomason-Stewart, David Lambert and Mandi Dearing. They all captured the moment and earned their applause.

This musical extravaganza not only had entertainment value: it promoted the musical company.
